Low Insulin vs. High Protein

People often ask me why I chose the Ideal Protein program for our office. They also often ask me why I think it is better than all the other weight loss programs out there today (and there are a lot of them!). Allow me to start by saying that we don’t have enough website bandwidth for me to write a complete dissertation about it, so I am going to give you the very brief version using 3 major points.

First, let me explain a very important point. Ideal Protein is not a “High Protein” diet, even though the name might suggest it. It is, first and foremost, a LOW INSULIN diet, which is what makes it so effective at getting rid of fat and saving precious muscle. You see, excess insulin (a hormone that regulates blood sugar), often causes your body to store the food you eat in your fat cells. Certain foods cause your body to secrete a lot of insulin, while others cause very little. If we decrease calories alone, we don’t always decrease insulin enough to lose body fat. This is why people who just “cut calories” often lose weight and gain it right back. This “cut calories” approach often leads to a dramatic loss of muscle and very little fat and it dramatically slows your metabolism. In addition, it often does not reduce insulin enough to stimulate your body to start burning stored fat. With our approach, we do cut calories, but we also eliminate all high insulin foods from the diet long enough to lose fat and spare muscle.

Second, we use the “unbalanced” approach. I know that sounds strange, but follow me on this one. Someone eating a balanced diet is not gaining or losing weight, just like the term “balanced” implies. In order to lose weight (specifically fat), we have to temporarily “unbalance” your diet to stimulate your body to burn fat as an energy source. How do we do it? Well, we cut all high insulin foods, plus we add an adequate amount of extraordinarily high quality protein to maintain your muscle mass and relatively small amounts of healthy fats. This temporary “unbalanced” approach allows your body to start using stored fat as an energy source and saves your muscle, which is the key to a successful program.

The third and last point is this: Our program is a 4 Phase process that takes you from weight loss back to a normal, healthy, balanced diet again without the sudden regaining of weight. In other words, you will learn how to eat for the rest of your life. This is very important. We have all heard that diets don’t work for a reason. For most people, within one year, they regain all of the weight they lost plus more. With our program, if you follow and apply the simple principles we will teach you along the way, that will not be the case. Remember, our motto is “Your Last Diet Ever” for a reason.
